[United Kingdom] — A moving new chapter book for pre-teens and teenagers, Hope Forever, Yui’s Beginning, tells the story of resilience, displacement, and hope through the eyes of a young girl forced to flee war.
The novel follows Yui, a Japanese expatriate living in Ukraine, whose life is suddenly upended by the outbreak of war. Forced to evacuate with her mother and sisters, Yui embarks on a difficult journey toward the United States—leaving behind her father, who stays to defend Ukraine. As uncertainty and fear reshape their world, Yui must find the strength to hold her family together and rebuild a sense of home in the face of unimaginable change.
Blending emotional depth with real-world relevance, Hope Forever, Yui’s Beginning, explores themes of family separation, courage, and the resilience of young people during times of crisis. It asks a powerful question at its core: when everything falls apart, can we find a way to put life back together again?
This remarkable debut comes from Margaret Araba Coleman, known as “Maggie,” a young writer whose passion for storytelling began early in life. Born in Lincolnshire, England, to a multicultural family with roots in Ghana and Lithuania, Maggie experienced a global upbringing that shaped her perspective and creativity. From attending nursery in Ghana to continuing her education in Scotland and England, her life journey inspired a deep curiosity about the world and the people in it.
Maggie began writing stories at a young age and quickly demonstrated extraordinary dedication to her craft. By early secondary school, she had already completed seventeen chapter and picture books, with many more in progress. Her commitment to storytelling reflected both her imagination and her determination to one day become a published author.
Tragically, Maggie passed away in July 2025 following a sudden brain haemorrhage, shortly after completing her first year of secondary school. She lived to see this book accepted for publication, making its release a meaningful tribute to her talent, voice, and vision.
Remembered as a compassionate thinker, an enthusiastic writer, and a vibrant young individual, Maggie’s legacy lives on through her work. She was actively involved in athletics, tae kwon do, horse riding, and swimming, and participated in her school’s band and orchestra. She is survived by her parents and her half-brother, Andrew.
Hope Forever, Yui’s Beginning, stands not only as a compelling story for young readers but also as a testament to the enduring power of creativity, even in the face of loss.
